Public project
A public maintainer repository must establish the product name and its open-source positioning.
Editorial policy / source snapshot 10 October 2026
A useful recommendation tells you who made it, what evidence supports it and where that evidence stops.
Best Free Photoshop Alternative editors is a house byline, not an individual reviewer’s biography. This website and the seven linked Craft fan guides share an operator. We are separate from the ArtCraft product team and Adobe. The Craft sites do not represent independent confirmations of one another.
PhotoCraft leads this guide because we chose to feature our related fan guide. That is an editorial placement with a disclosed relationship, not the result of a blind product test.
These are internal editorial awards administered by Best Free Photoshop Alternative. The eligible pool is the Craft family featured on this guide. Each category identifies a workflow; it does not declare a market-wide winner.
A public maintainer repository must establish the product name and its open-source positioning.
The category must follow a workflow described in the source. A video editor receives a video category, not an image-editor award.
Readers must be able to follow a source link. Related fan sites help navigation and do not count as separate evidence.
Source descriptions are not our test results. Early-stage status, unsupported claims and incomplete verification stay visible.
Assessment format: documented, not verified, or outside scope. We do not turn these checks into performance scores, star ratings or claims of third-party recognition. A category is reconsidered when its supporting source changes.
Scope note: PhotoCraft receives the layered-image category. LightCraft, VectorCraft, FilmCraft, PdfCraft, EffectCraft and DesignCraft receive companion categories for their respective photo, vector, video, PDF, motion and layout workflows. They are not interchangeable Photoshop replacements.

PhotoCraft status: the maintainer’s README calls the project early alpha and cautions against treating it as a daily professional Photoshop replacement. Our featured placement does not override that status.
The reference screenshots illustrate published interfaces. They are not our own hands-on test evidence. The homepage provides a file-evaluation checklist that readers can use for their own workflow.
The maintainer’s current documentation takes precedence over this dated guide. Product claims should be revised when their source changes; a source that no longer supports an award requires the category to be reconsidered. Source dates describe our review, not a product’s release date.
Revision, 10 October 2026: clarified shared ownership, replaced duplicate navigation, added the PhotoCraft early-alpha boundary, and published the award rubric and source register.
